That's why I'm glad that The National At-Home Dad Network is advocating for an update to the categorizations found in the Census so that the growing number of at-home dads is equally, fairly, and accurately represented.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05883725155851998665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4921068312641413370.post-34603289478589086362012-06-18T16:35:01.420-04:002012-06-18T16:35:01.420-04:00Good for you guys! It's changed a lot is a decade. But, men still are under-reported their role so I still wonder what the REAL statistics are? Too many SAHD's don't describe themselves as such! Instead, they say they are between jobs. My hubby spent a lot of time with our son in his early years and I think it made a huge difference in his development. It doesn't suit everyone but I love it when dads love being involved with their kids (prob because my dad wasn't interested) it balances them up and helps them to be well rounded imo!...Must say that I agree with Mimi too, it's wonderful being at home with your family if you can.Sonyahttp://www.leanonus.conoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4921068312641413370.post-15901691372439381122012-06-17T01:54:06.810-04:002012-06-17T01:54:06.810-04:00I think it's so fantastic if either parent sta...I think it's so fantastic if either parent stays home. I was a SAHM for 15 yrs and it was my career. I only went back to work out of necessity and now as a single parent, I have no choice. I would give it all up in a heartbeat if there were some way for me to be home again. I'm so glad to read about dads who find being home so rewarding! =)Mimi Nhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16860967608697974293noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4921068312641413370.post-65013721346500122662012-06-16T19:59:38.292-04:002012-06-16T19:59:38.292-04:00I find it endlessly amusing that so many in our cu...I find it endlessly amusing that so many in our culture find it impossible to believe that parents want to and choose to devote their time, energy, and talents to their children.gina valleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05057006078790933058noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4921068312641413370.post-64588242267765877742012-06-16T12:45:47.946-04:002012-06-16T12:45:47.946-04:00Great video, although their similarly-striped ties...Great video, although their similarly-striped ties were a little distracting.BloggerFatherhttp://www.bloggerfather.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4921068312641413370.post-19212587627719772722012-06-15T18:43:28.737-04:002012-06-15T18:43:28.737-04:00I would say you are very well employed if you are ...I would say you are very well employed if you are a stay at home parent! Jobs that could not be done without the full cooperation of my wife.

We made the for me to stay home purely for financial reasons. My job was outsourced to India the very same week that we got the good news that we were going to have a baby. Her job has/had an outstanding benefit package that we did not want to lose and if I did manage to find something in my field (computer programming) my whole salary would end up being paid child care, not to mention the fact that we would have to leave our kid/kids in the hands of strangers. That wasn't happening!

A few years down the road, it was time to think about school. First of all, unlike when we were kids, the schools don't teach the basics anymore; they expect the kids to have learned them at home. If we were going to that we might as well teach them everything. Plus we still really didn't want to leave our kids with strangers.Jimnoreply@blogger.com
