Who Is The RMD?

Hello readers!

My name is Matt, and I live with my family and a giant pile of laundry in Maryland.  I gave up my 70 hour work weeks as a manager for a national retailer to be a stay at home dad for my little girl.  For almost two years, I have been writing about my experiences on this blog.

TheRealMattDaddy.com began as a way for me to talk about my adventures as an at-home dad. My initial intent was just to have a record of this time with my daughter so that she could read it some day and understand what it was like for me to be her primary caregiver.  

Thankfully, this site has evolved into so much more than just a virtual diary.  As I connect with other parents and other bloggers around the country, I have come to realize that my site serves more than one purpose.  Now, if I could just convince my daughter to take her nap today, I'd be happy.

My goals for this site:

1. To be an honest and positive example of involved fatherhood by telling stories from the perspective of an at-home dad.  I want my daughter to enjoy these stories when she is old enough to understand them. 

 2. To promote involved fatherhood by encouraging dads to step up and assume the role that they may have been ignoring and by encouraging mothers to support their parenting partner with motivation, encouragement, and constructively delivered criticism. 

 3. To combat negative stereotypes of fathers in the media. 

 4. To be a resource for other at-home dads (and bloggers to a lesser extent). 

 5. To create opportunities for writing or public speaking that allow me to convey my message to a broader audience.
