VEGGIE TALES - "Robin Good" REVIEW & G!VEAWAY

Larry the Cucumber as Robin Good

A long time ago, in the faraway town of Bethlingham, roved a band of merry men led by the fearless Robin Good.  Their mission: to help people by fundraising from the rich and giving to the poor!

The folks at Big Idea Entertainment have done it again.  Adapted from the classic tale of Robin Hood, the latest Veggie Tales story teaches kids that there is no hurt too big for God to heal.

There is a giveaway at the end of this review where you can win your very own copy of Veggie Tales: Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry Men!

I love the Veggie Tales, so this review is probably not the most objective one you will find of this movie; however, it may be the most passionate.  You cannot go wrong with Veggie Tales.  Their stories, while not always 100% true to the narratives they are inspired by, are often creatively re-imagined to highlight the moral of the story and have fun with the characters in the process.  They are incredibly entertaining for kids, and I watch them with my daughter because I find them entertaining as well.  Plus, I get to talk to her about the lessons they are trying to teach while we watch together.

In this comical spin on the classic Robin Hood, Robin Good's band of merry men fund raise from the rich and give to the poor, but when donations are down, the merry men get another idea.  They want to start robbing from the rich.  But Robin Good stands on principles and refuses to rob anyone, so his merry men leave him to go rob from the rich.  Just when he thought it couldn't get worse than being all alone, Robin finds out that the greedy, ham-hoarding Prince has captured his friends!  Can Robin overcome his own hurt, rescue his friends and restore the townspeople's hope?  Find out in this fun Veggie story where kids learn that there is no hurt too big for God!

I found this movie to be both entertaining and engaging.  My daughter loved the songs, and ended up dancing around the living room several times.  I love the animation, and I also like it when they include a few jokes for the parents.  The story is heartwarming, and you can't go wrong with the moral lessons it teaches.  I highly recommend it.

I do understand that some parents may be hesitant to let their children watch a children's video with a religious spin, but I find that Veggie Tales is great at keeping things simple.  They don't make the religious aspect of their programs any more complicated than God loves you, God made you special, and in the case of this video, God heals our hurts.  They do, however, drive home moral lessons that appeal to a much broader audience.  If you, the parent, want to take the opportunity to apply a Bible-based, "Sunday school" type lesson to their videos, they provide the materials (click picture on the right to enlarge) to do so in the Bonus Features on the DVD or on their website.

The video is fun, and there are a lot of bonus features on the DVD including the popular feature Silly Songs with Larry, a bonus short called Lenny & The Lost Birthday, sing-a-long songs, and much more!

This review was made possible by Mom Spark Media. Thoughts are my own. All prizing for MSM giveaways is handled by a third party unless otherwise noted. For this reason prize fulfillment can take up to 90 days after the winners information is received.  Big Idea Entertainment supplied me with a copy of the DVD for review, and they were kind enough to include some awesome Veggie Tales band-aids as well!
